Brad_Zsu_2 It took a bit of time, but we finally caught up with Zsu, one of my favorite people from my graduate school days and a survivor of The Bill Drummond J-200 experience. (You either get that or you don’t. There is no way to explain it.)

It turns out she lives just a few blocks from where we were staying (and as fate would have it, we were shopping at the same street market at the same time earlier that day; alas, we didn’t run into each other).

We enjoyed a coffee and dessert before heading back to her place to chat with her husband (and to peek in on M-, her son, who was fast asleep by the time we arrived).

Zsu was part of the documentary film track at school so after our first semester, we parted ways in terms of academics. But the Alumni group and Facebook et al have allowed us to stay in touch even as our classmates continue to spread out across the globe.

Looking back on that experience, it’s quite fascinating to realize just how far and wide our class has spread, and yet many of us remain in touch. The class was small — 47 if memory serves me correctly — but it’s not always easy to keep in touch with your classmates. The two years goes by so quickly. And, as we realized last night, nine years also goes by quickly.
