Notes: Budapest

I’ve always kept a written journal for my trips, marking down neat stops along the way and other tidbits. I’ll collect them all here for each city in my Notes section

Cafes:

  1. Cafe Bobek: This place reminds me of the Spiderhouse in Austin; arty, hip, cheap prices, decent food and beverage selection. You will get a cross-section of young-ish folks. Also: WiFi.
  2. Mai Mano: Quite simply the best cappuccino that I’ve had anywhere in Europe. In the theater district (we think, there are 3 theaters in the neighborhood).
  3. Spinoza: a cabaret and coffeeshop; the crowd is a little older (50s, 60s), but the piano seems to be going quite a bit. Played by the patrons. Dig it.

Food

  1. Ruszwurm: world famous dessert place on the grounds of the Buda royal palace; worth the trip because the torts are amazing. I mean, hike the freaking side of the mountain and eat the cakes. Seriously.
  2. Regos: We stumbled across this little place, a cellar food joint. Good food. Big selection actually.

Notes

  1. Treehugger Dan’s: A second-hand bookstore with a very tiny cafe in the back. This is an English-speaking joint and not a bad place to start.
  2. Heroes Square at City Park: John and Aimee dragged me to this, in the north part of the city. Definitely worth the trip. The statues are freaking enormous. Don’t forget the park surrounding the area.
  3. You’ll be tempted to hang out in Litst Ferencter, the hip restaurant and cafe area. But it’s way overpriced when it comes to dinner. Desserts and coffee are okay, but don’t get wrapped up in the glitz.
  4. Please, walk down to the Danube. I’m not a big water person, but even I made it there on 2 occasions in 5 days.
