Our Brighton Exercise Day

I’m sitting in bed in Brighton, tuckered out completely. The day was an absolute complete blur of activity, but in the best possible way.

Aleks and I went for a 10K this morning along the Brighton pier. It was absolutely amazing. We chatting while going at a pretty good clip (8:45 per mile), which included an all-out sprint at the end (7:40 seconds).

After, we ate breakfast before one of Aleks’ friends from London came down for a softball lesson. (Seemed she’d signed up for a league despite having a “limited” history of the game.)

The three of us were joined by another of Aleks’ friends in Preston Park, where we played softball for two hours. Amazingly, the woman who had the “limited” history turned out to be one of those natural athletes. She had us chasing balls all over the park during batting practice.

We came home so the girls could shower (I passed out on the couch for a few minutes) before heading out for some shopping. Which included cruising through the main local shopping areas.

Always I find myself gravitating towards cool art, particularly the graffiti fusion on the sides of buildings. I ran down this street to snap this picture after the artwork caught my eye from the main road.

On our way to dinner, we passed these street singers who appeared to be promoting a show later in the evening. My first reaction: Brighton reminds me of a big Berkeley. If you’ve spent any time on Shadduck Avenue or Sprowl during the spring, this makes more sense.

Eventually our Gang of Four turned into the gang of two. Aleks and I headed to the pier for some ice cream. (You would simply need to see the gigantic pile of ice cream they gave us to believe, but trust me when I tell you we will be digesting that food for about a year.) The walk – while chilly – was just breath-taking as the sun went down.

Joining us, circling all across the pier, were our friends. I happened to catch one of them as he (he?!?!) pecked around for some food.

As we made our way back towards the homestead, we ran into a few of Aleks’ volleyball buddies who’d set up shop along the channel. We hung for a bit before retiring home to watch 3 episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But the day whooped us so much that while we watched the shows, we were not able to turn on the lights in the house because they were too far away our collective reach.
