Write. Publish. Repeat.Write. Publish. Repeat. by Sean Platt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great, no-nonsense look at the world of self-publishing and writing. I’ve described it as Getting Things Done for writers.

I’ve made my career as a writer and a writing teacher since 1995. That includes stints at national magazines, and teaching at several large universities. It’s not easy to keep up on what’s happening even though that’s my job. (Or my other job along with writing.)

Write. Publish. Repeat. is one of the best books I’ve read on the subject of writing, publishing, and career-building in the 21st century.

It’s not a textbook. It’s not a how-to guide. Instead, Platt’s written a casual narrative that explains how he and his partners have approached building their writing business, and what you might want to think about as you try to build yours.

There are no bullet point solutions to Making It As A Writer, and there’s no deep dive into the specifics of how to market your work or how to build an audience.

Instead, the book is more of a practical philosophy on how to approach becoming a professional, independent writer. And it’s well worth the investment in both time and money.

This newsletter is the outgrowth of The Downtown Writers Jam podcast. What that means is I will collect information about the authors I interview, book happenings around the Web, and other literary events that I find interesting. Without you, I'm just a crazy guy sitting in his office furiously screaming on the page for no reason.
