Chris Roberts: “Star Citizen”

When we wrote the first edition of Dungeons & Dreamers, Chris Roberts was a minor character in our narrative. That doesn’t mean we found him unimportant. His story just mirrored our main narrative.

As such, he appears mostly in two chapters (as Origin Systems becomes part of Electronic Arts.)

When I first met Richard in 1997, he gave me a tour of the Austin studios. There I saw several of the in-house studios (including the THX-certified sound studio.) Much of what I remember from that time was talk of the “Wing Commander” series and how it cinematics were the first attempt to make movies within games.

Today Roberts has successfully crowd-funded $14 million dollars for his latest game: Star Citizen.

Here’s a fun look at Roberts + the game.
